Pictures for Money

Is this the end for the Who reads the headline?

Well, it doesn't seem like it was, given that they still get together some 30 years later. The story was that it was all over because Townshend's hearing was fast fading.

Of course, 2 band members are dead now. Keith Moon sadly died about 3 weeks after these pics were taken, which made this the last picture ever taken of the Who as a full band. This pic, lodged with Rex Features, has earned me quite a bit of money over the years and continues to do so. It's an ill wind, I guess.

Rex is an outfit I can't praise too highly. It's probably more than 20 years since I gave them any new material yet I get regular payments from them still. They are one of the few businesses in any sphere that I'd recommend without reservation to any photographer.

I've just remembered Roger Daltry's remark when I'd set up my lights and camera and asked them to come over. "What's this, then? New band, are we?"

No matter what, they were always thrilling to watch - if you take into account the showmanship, as far as I'm concerned they were the greatest rock and roll band in the world.
